Theyyam is a folk art but a lively combination of ritual, vocal, instrumental, dance, painting, sculpture and literature.Theyyam means God in Malayalam. The concept of this energetic art form is that men transform into God at certain ritualistic and divine moments. The beating of Chendas[drums], blowing of pipes, rhythmic dance steps, bright coloured costumes, and vivid face paintings are depicted various Hindu Deities.Kavu (sacred grove) is an arena of the Theyyam performers. December to May is the period of harvest and festivals when this ritual is conducted at Northern Kerala.


Kalaripayattu is believed as the most oldest and scientific martial art form in the world. It is regarded as the mother of all martial arts. Kalari means arena and Payattu means combat, therefore it is an art of fighting practiced inside an arena.Kalari massage also becomes famous now. It blends the body mind and soul. Massaging synchronizes the entire biological system of the body. It enhances the circulation of the body fluids and activates the lymphatic system of the body and helps to purify the body. The visitation includes an hour long practice demonstration and massage.

Malabar (Northern Kerala) also has known for its spices plantations. Traditional plantations of wayanad and coorg are holding the growing tracts of a tea, coffee, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, cocoa, coconut, beetlenut, turmeric, ginger, vanilla, rubber, cashew and paddy etc. Enough rainfall, high altitude temperature, and fertile soil are the main factors of richness and aroma of the spices. The trial includes visitation and interaction of a local farmer, plantations, processing factories, nurseries and authentic spices shops etc.

Culinary Trial of The Malabar

The cuisines of Malabar (Northern Kerala) are unique because of it's cultural influence of the Muslim and Brahmin dynasty's. The tastes of Malabar include Malabar Mappila Biriyani (mutton, chicken, lamb or prawn). Kallummakkaya,Erachiputtu,malabar parotta and pathiri,. The snacks include unnakkaya,pazhamnirachathu (ripe banana filled with grated coconut and sugar),chattipathiri, Halwa(sweat meat), banana chips and so on. It also includes a wide range of seafood delicacies and the Malabar Biriyani known as the king of Biriyani.

Tribal Culinary Trial

The Kuruma tribe of Wayanad, they consume large varieties of leafy vegetables, the major cooking ingredients and spices they collecting by an organic way from the virgin forest.They use traditional kitchen, fuelled with fire wood and where they use organic utensils such as bamboo tubes, earthenware’s and ceramic pans. The highlights of the cuisines are Wildhoney,Bambooshoot Mushroom curry, ‘muddha Ada(finger millet)’, coconut rice, ‘kalluputtu’, ‘njandu(fresh water crab), gandhakasala (aromatic rice)’ and the Bamboo rice payasam(dessert) .The tribal food of Wayanad is different from the local cuisine but the richness of the ethnic taste is spellbound.
